Physical Therapy Path (DPT)

In the U.S., all students entering this field must now earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) in addition to passing state/national boards. If you are interested in researching programs, we recommend that you start with information from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTA).

Required Courses

Most DPT programs require:

  • BIOL 1310 Human Anatomy and BIOL 1320 Human Physiology
  • CHEM 1510 and 1520 General Chemistry I & II
  • BIOL 1510 & 1520 General Biology I & II
  • PHYS 3110 and 3120 General Physics I & II
  • MATH/BUSS 2610 Statistics
  • PSYC 1600 Introduction to Psychology
  • (Many require 1-2 more PSYC courses)

Recommended Courses

In addition, some DPT programs (15% of US programs) require or strongly recommend:

  • Additional Biology courses
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Kinesiology
